Getting Help for Food and Other Necessities

One in four Americans goes hungry. I'm betting this applies to many on this site.
This came up in Public Quicknotes a couple weeks ago. It struck me that a lot of people don't know about food banks and other community services that a lot of people who use this site should know about.
We used one back in the early 90s, and many people you might not suspect have done so also. Most of the donations at these places come from people in your own area.
Also, if you live in a small town or otherwise can't carry a food box home, talk to your local food bank, often they can get someone to bring it to you.
I'm sorry I never thought to bring this up before. It was a conversation in public Quicknotes that brought this up again for me.

I haven't had to use the food bank in our community, but I use "meals on wheels" for older folks.

Someone in dire strafes could probably call the united way and ask for places in their community.

Great suggest. There is also Feeding America's Food Bank Locator for those interested.

211 or 311, is a great source of information for local and other programs. You call and ask for what you require.

Would they bring me an extra hot chicken vindaloo? Hmm?

Never know, unless you ask. Smile.

Post 6 brings up a valid point, even if only in jest. Yes, please do ask, for sake of yourself and those who care about you. People in your local community donate food and other necessities so that you can benefit. When I lost my software consulting business in 2005 one of the things I learned was just how many people, from very different walks of life, find themselves in your very situation.
So for love of everything noble and honorable and decent, forsake what your fundamentalist church / Fox News and all the rest say, and get the help you need. I know it's way worse now than it was in 05, so.

2-11 is a joke, but I definitely agree with those who say that people should know how to get what they need.

I wonder if 211 works better in some places over others?
You and I have talked about that Chelsea.
I also don't think giving has gotten worse or better since 2005, I think you just need to locate what you require, and again, maybe this depends on where you live.
